It was easy to forget that Ellie was just about to go into, what? Junior year? She would have finally been allowed to go to prom. As lame as it sounded to Ellie, the thought sometimes made her want to cry. She could be a bit of hopeless romantic, so this, would haunt her probably till the day she was eaten. Her shoes clunked softly on the gym floor, the room filled with grim light, her footsteps echoing in the large empty gym. She thought back to times when she'd just spend gym laughing and goofing off with friends. Sitting in the middle of the gym for a few moments, she soon got up and decided to go look for her locker for the heck of it. The school had obviously seen better days, papers scattered everywhere, some of the bright blue lockers bloody, probably used to bash a Geeks head in, phones even scattered on the floor. She listened intently as she walked past lockers of her friends, waiting. In the earlier part of the outbreak, she remembered a large group tried to hold down the high school. They did better for awhile, but, like all good things, it ended. This is why Ellie never even thought to look for a group. She couldn't imagine it being all that safe for long. But she also sometimes thought about how it would be to have people looking out for you, having a family like community. But, in the end, she had to remind herself that she did well for herself, and that she didn't need anyone. Do I..? Huffing against the warm medical mask, she gripped her ice pick, finally reaching her locker. If this were a movie, you'd get all the pretty looking flashbacks of her and her friends lounging around. Reaching for the combination lock, she was surprised that the combo came to her with ease, like she'd came here everyday as usual. Opening it, she almost immediately grabbed the pictures she had in there of her friends and shoving it in her hoodie pocket. A few text books lay in, but the only other thing that caught her eye was a water bottle. Thank God I never brought things home.. Picking it up, she slid it into her backpack. Taking out the pictures again, she shut her locker and headed down the hall to her old homeroom. Surprisingly, the room was unlocked. Pushing the door open, she looked around, standing in the doorway before walking slowly and numb like to her seat. Tears started to fall on the pictures as she lay them out on the desk. She knew already. None of her friends made it. She could feel it.
